Artist Guilherme Moraes

Painting by Guilherme Morales

Guilherme Moraes was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1986.

After obtaining his two year degree at Palm Beach State College, he received his BFA from the New World School of the Arts in 2015. As a student, while attending Palm Beach State College, Guilherme had a very narrow view of painting and art in general, both in a contemporary and historical sense. To him, and to most of his classmates, the drawing and painting classes were part of the Graphic Design curriculum, or merely an easy going elective.

The reason Guilherme had chosen to pursue design was because he knew he wanted to build a career through his creativity, but the thought that a person could spend a lifetime pursuing Painting in this day and time never crossed his mind. As Guilherme slowly learned more about contemporary artists and their endeavors, and the more he drew and painted, Guilherme realized that he wanted to invest his life into finding his questions, interior and of the world, to then elaborate on approaches that could lead him to truth. Guilherme has found the medium that conduces him through this investigative journey, and it is through Painting.

Labors Left Unfinished is a study of agency and modality. The work explores historical concerns of painting as a medium through inescapable forces of
contemporary practice.

Guilherme Moraes currently lives and works in Miami and is represented by Fredric Snitzer Gallery in Miami.
